Read to Achieve

Read to Achieve

In order to meet the requirements for the Read to Achieve legislation, third grade students must show proficiency in reading in order to be promoted to fourth grade without a Reading Retained label. A student may do this in a variety of ways. In the chart below are various ways your child can show proficiency in third grade.

Measure Requirement for Proficiency
Beginning of Grade Test Level 3,4, or 5
Star Reading Lexile Level of 725 or higher
mClass Reading 3D TRC level P or higher
Reading Portfolio Pass all 12 standards
End-of-Grade Test Level 3,4, or 5
Read to Achieve Test Level 3,4, or 5

If a student has not met one of the above expectations by the end of the school year, he/she will be offered the opportunity to show proficiency during summer reading camp.

Make sure your child reads each night for at least 15-20 minutes! This should include your child reading an Accelerated Reader book on his/her designated level. If possible, monitor comprehension by asking questions that relate to the text. Also, have students practice writing their answers in complete sentences, or writing a summary of what has been read.
